Bible verses for when you're tired
Not sleepy. Tired. The kind where you've slept eight hours and woken up with the tank still on empty. Where a text from a friend feels like a task. Where you can't remember the last time you did nothing without feeling guilty about it.
Here's something people miss: the Bible starts with God resting, and he wasn't tired. Rest is on the first page as a good thing in itself, not a reward for finishing. The fourth commandment is basically 'stop working one day in seven', and it applies to servants and animals too. Jesus, who had more to do than anyone, slept in boats and walked away from crowds.

A yoke is farm equipment for two animals pulling together. Jesus doesn't promise no load. He promises a light one, and that you're not pulling it alone. That's a more useful offer than 'no work ever'.

What to actually do with these
Do what the angel told Elijah. Eat something real, drink water, and sleep, and don't read a single verse until you've done that. Then pick one day this week, or one evening if a day is impossible, and put nothing in it. No catching up, no doomscrolling, no productive rest. Just stop, because the pattern in Genesis 2 is that stopping is the point, not a break from the point. If you honestly can't stop because too much depends on you, read Exodus 18 again and ask who your Jethro is: the person who'll tell you it's too heavy and help you hand some of it off. Say Psalm 3:5 when you lie down. It's short enough to remember when you're this tired.

Does God want me to rest?
Yes, and it's stronger than 'wants'. Rest is on the first page of the Bible, built into creation before anyone was tired. It's in the Ten Commandments, which makes it a command and not a suggestion, and the command covers your servants and animals so nobody is grinding on your behalf. Jesus took his disciples away to rest and slept through a storm. If you've absorbed the idea that God is impressed by how much you do, the text points the other way.
What does the Bible say about burnout?
It doesn't use the word, but it has the case studies. Moses judging Israel alone until his father-in-law intervenes. Elijah collapsing under a tree after a huge win. Moses again in Numbers 11 telling God the load is too heavy. The common thread is that someone else has to say 'you can't do this alone', and the fix is shared load, food and sleep before anything spiritual. If you're waiting for God to give you more energy so you can keep the same pace, that isn't the pattern.
Is it a sin to be lazy?
Proverbs is hard on laziness, and there's no point pretending otherwise. But exhausted and lazy are different things. Lazy people avoid work they should do. Tired people did the work and have nothing left. The fact that you're asking this question, and feeling guilty about resting, is a fairly strong sign you're not the lazy one. Rest that lets you work again isn't laziness. It's what the seventh day was for.
Is there a Bible verse for when I can't sleep?
Psalm 4:8 ('in peace I'll lie down and sleep'), Psalm 3:5 and Psalm 127:2 are the ones people say at night, and Psalm 63:6 talks about thinking of God in the night watches, which suggests the psalmist was awake at 3am too. They're prayers, not sleeping pills. Saying one slowly can settle you, but if not sleeping has become a pattern, that's a doctor conversation, and there's nothing unspiritual about having it.
