Bible verses for courage
Read enough of the Bible and you notice that 'be strong and courageous' is almost never said to a brave person. It's said to Joshua, who's just lost his mentor and inherited an army. To Solomon, who's twenty and about to build something his father couldn't. To a whole nation standing at a river. The phrase is for people whose knees are going.
And it always comes with a reason attached, and the reason is never 'because you've got this'. It's 'because the Lord your God is with you'. That's the entire structure of biblical courage: not confidence in yourself, but confidence that you're not walking in alone.
Whatever it is for you (the conversation, the audition, the doctor's appointment, the honest thing you need to say to a friend), these verses were said to people in the same position, and they were said before, not after.

'When I am afraid' comes first. The psalmist is scared and says so. Trust isn't the absence of fear here; it's what he does with it. Written, the heading says, when David was captured by enemies.
17If it happens, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.”

What to actually do with these
Name the specific thing. Not 'I need to be braver', but 'I need to send that message' or 'I need to say no to him'. Then borrow Joshua 1:9's structure and say it as a sentence: 'I'm going to do this, and the Lord is with me wherever I go.' Say it before, when it still feels untrue. 1 Chronicles 28:20 puts 'and do it' right after 'be courageous', so set a time and do it scared. Courage in the Bible is almost never a feeling that arrives first; it's what people call the action afterwards. If the thing you're facing is fear of a person who's hurting you, courage might mean telling someone and getting out, and the fear page and a trusted adult come before any verse. Questions people ask
How do I find courage when I'm scared?
Every courage verse in the Bible gives the same source, and it isn't inside you. Joshua 1:9, Deuteronomy 31:6, Isaiah 43:2 all say: because God is with you. So the first move is to say the fear to God in full, like Psalm 56:3 does, and then say the promise back. The second is to shrink it: courage for the next step, not for the whole thing. And the third is other people. Esther had Mordecai. David had a history with God he could recall out loud. Nobody in the Bible was brave alone for long.
Is fear a sin?
No. The Bible says 'do not fear' a lot, but it says it to people who are afraid, as reassurance, not accusation. Jesus was in such distress the night before he died that Luke says he sweated like drops of blood. David wrote 'when I am afraid' in the psalms and it's in the Bible. Fear is a signal; it tells you something matters. What the Bible warns against is fear getting the final say. 2 Timothy 1:7 says you've been given power, love and self-control alongside the fear. You use those. You don't have to first stop being afraid.
What if I do the brave thing and it goes wrong?
The Bible doesn't hide that possibility. Esther said 'if I perish, I perish'. The three men in Daniel 3 said 'but if not'. Stephen in Acts 7 was bold and was killed for it. Biblical courage is not a guarantee of success; it's doing what's right without one. What is promised is presence (Isaiah 43:2 says 'when you pass through the waters', not 'if') and that God's purpose survives your individual outcome. That's colder comfort than 'it'll work out'. It's also true, which the other thing sometimes isn't.
