Bible verses about hope
Hope in the Bible is not optimism. Optimism is a temperament; some people are born with it and some aren't. Hope is a decision about where you look, and the people in scripture who talk about it most were usually in prison, in exile, or standing at a grave.
That matters, because if you've come here feeling like there's nothing to hope for, a cheerful verse will bounce off you. What won't bounce off is Micah, in a wrecked city, saying 'when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light'. Or Paul writing 'hope doesn't let us down' from a life that included being stoned and left for dead.
Christian hope has a specific object. It isn't 'things will get better'. It's that Jesus was raised from the dead, and that what happened to him is the preview for everyone who belongs to him. It's a blessing, not an instruction. Paul doesn't say 'be more hopeful'. He asks God to fill people with it, which suggests hope is something given more than something summoned.

What to actually do with these
Hope is mostly about where you point your eyes, so start there. Read one of the resurrection accounts, John 20 or Luke 24, slowly, as if you didn't know how it ends. Then say Micah 7:8 out loud, the 'when I fall, I'll get up' line, and mean the 'when'. If hope has been delayed for a long time and your heart is sick with it, like Proverbs 13:12 says, tell someone that. Hope in the Bible is rarely a solo project; the exiles hoped together, and the disciples on the Emmaus road were saying 'we had hoped' to each other when Jesus walked up beside them. It isn't delulu to keep looking. It's what the night guard does.

What is the difference between hope and faith in the Bible?
Hebrews 11:1 ties them together: faith is being sure of what you hope for. Roughly, faith is trust now, and hope is what that trust looks forward to. Romans 8:24 adds that hope is always about what you can't see yet. So faith says 'God is trustworthy', and hope says 'so this ends well, even though I can't see how'. In practice they lean on each other; you can't sustain one for long without the other.
What does Jeremiah 29:11 really mean?
It's from a letter to people who had just been deported to Babylon, and the verse before it says they'll be there seventy years. So most of the first readers would die in exile. God is telling them to build houses, plant gardens and settle in, because his plans for his people are good on a scale longer than their lifetimes. That's still hopeful, but it's not a promise about your exam or your relationship. Apply it carefully and it's stronger, not weaker.
How do I have hope when everything is going wrong?
The people in these verses did it by looking at something that wasn't their circumstances. Micah looked at the Lord. The psalmist in 130 waited for the morning he couldn't make come faster. Paul looked at the resurrection. So the honest answer is: you don't generate hope from inside a bad situation. You borrow it from somewhere outside the situation, and for Christians that somewhere is an empty tomb. Read that story, say one of these verses, and tell a person. Hope in scripture is rarely done alone.
Is it okay to lose hope?
It happens to people in the Bible all the time, and they're not written off for it. Job lost it. Jeremiah lost it. Psalm 88 ends without it. Two disciples walking to Emmaus said 'we had hoped' in the past tense, and Jesus was walking next to them while they said it. Losing hope isn't the end of the story in any of those cases. If you've lost it, say so; that's allowed. Then let someone else hold it for you for a while.
